Our school is excited to celebrate Read Across America Week from March 2–6! This special week is all about inspiring a love of reading in fun, engaging ways for our students. We encourage all students and staff to participate in our themed dress-up days as we celebrate the joy and power of books!
Please note: Participation in dress-up days is completely optional. We hope many students will join the fun, but there is no requirement to participate.
Here’s what each day will look like:
🔴 Monday, March 2 – Dr. Seuss Day
Students may dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character or wear red, white, and blue. Stripes, spots, and Seuss-style flair are welcome as we kick off the week!
🎩 Tuesday, March 3 – “Top Hat Tuesday”
Students can wear a silly, tall, striped, favorite, or homemade hat to school to show their Seuss spirit.
🎓 Wednesday, March 4 – “Oh, The Places You’ll Go”
Students are invited to dress for a future college or career to show how reading can take them anywhere!

📘 Understanding TELPAS: A Parent’s Guide for Emergent Bilingual students 📘
Over the past few weeks, many students have come home sharing that they are practicing their English language skills and getting ready for TELPAS. We know many parents may be wondering what TELPAS is and why their child takes it, so we wanted to share some helpful information.
TELPAS testing will take place next week, beginning on Tuesday, March 2. TELPAS measures how well students are developing academic English and helps determine language growth.
🗓 TELPAS Testing Schedule
Tuesday, March 2: 2nd & 3rd Grade – Reading & Writing
Wednesday, March 3: 4th & 5th Grade – Reading & Writing
Thursday, March 4: 2nd & 3rd Grade – Listening & Speaking
Friday, March 5: 4th & 5th Grade – Listening & Speaking
⭐ What Does Reclassification Mean?
To be reclassified, students must earn an Advanced High (AH) composite score on TELPAS.
Reclassification means a student is considered English proficient and will not need to take TELPAS again in future years.
📌 Grade-Level Information
1st Grade students are holistically rated using teacher observations, classroom work, and notes.
1st and 2nd Grade students who earn an AH composite score must also take an additional assessment called the IOWA to confirm English language proficiency.
➡️ Students must pass BOTH TELPAS and the IOWA to be reclassified.

Practice listening by talking about stories, music, or shows in English
Encourage speaking by asking your child to explain ideas or describe pictures
Read together and talk about new words
Support writing through journals, stories, or short responses

📘 Entendiendo TELPAS: Guía para padres 📘
Durante las últimas semanas, muchos estudiantes han llegado a casa comentando que están practicando sus habilidades en inglés y preparándose para TELPAS. Sabemos que muchos padres se preguntan qué es TELPAS y por qué sus hijos lo presentan, por lo que queremos compartirles información útil.
Las pruebas TELPAS se realizarán un par de semanas después de las vacaciones de invierno, y tenemos 18 días escolares para prepararnos antes de que comiencen las evaluaciones el martes 2 de marzo. TELPAS mide el desarrollo del inglés académico de los estudiantes y ayuda a determinar su progreso lingüístico.

⭐ ¿Qué significa la reclasificación?
Para ser reclasificado, el estudiante debe obtener una puntuación compuesta de Nivel Avanzado Alto (AH) en TELPAS.
La reclasificación significa que el estudiante se considera competente en inglés y no necesitará presentar TELPAS nuevamente en los próximos años.
📌 Información por nivel de grado
Los estudiantes de 1.er grado son evaluados de forma integral mediante observaciones del maestro, trabajos en clase y anotaciones.
Los estudiantes de 1.er y 2.º grado que obtienen una puntuación compuesta de Nivel Avanzado Alto (AH) también deben presentar una evaluación adicional llamada IOWA para confirmar su dominio del idioma inglés.
