Budget and Required Postings
A school district budget is divided into two main funds.
The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) fund is used for day-to-day operations (i.e. salaries, supplies, utilities, etc.).
The Interest and Sinking (I&S) fund is used to repay bonded indebtedness.

Annual Financial Reports
Kaufman ISD's fiscal year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st. Each year, KISD's financial statements are audited by an independent firm. Below are the annual audit reports of those financial statements. For additional information, please visit the Texas Comptroller's website.
FIRST Reports
FIRST stands for “Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas” and is the Texas Education Agency's annual rating of the school district's financial performance.
The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources in order to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. The system will also disclose the quality of local management and decision-making processes that impact the allocation of financial resources in Texas public schools.
Debt Transparency
The 84th Legislature passed HB 1378 to increase the transparency of local government debt. Under Local Government Code §140.008, political subdivisions, including counties, cities, school districts, junior college districts, certain special purpose districts, and other subdivisions of state government must annually compile their debt obligation data from the preceding fiscal year and either report it to the Comptroller of Public Accounts for posting or, alternatively, post the information on their own websites.
