Hearing Screenings: Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, 7th grade, and any student new to KISD

Spinal Screenings: 5th and 8th grade. Notification of this screening will be sent home in advance. If you prefer to have your student screened by your physician, or wish to request an exemption, please contact your school nurse. (Spanish Version)

Acanthosis Nigricans: 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 7th grade will be screened for Acanthosis Nigricans, a condition that signals high levels of insulin in the body. This screening is done by looking at and feeling the skin on the back of the neck. If the first screening is positive, it will be followed by checking height, weight, and blood pressure.

Students may also have vision or hearing screened at the request of their teacher or the Special Education department. Parents may request screening at any time, simply call your school nurse or stop by the health room.
