The Cross Country teams competed at the state meet, in Round Rock, this past Saturday. We had a very successful trip!
The girls' team placed 4th just missing the podium by 15 points. They were led by Ellie Galan who placed 14th and Taylor Sandberg who placed 28th and both earned Cross Country Association All-State honors. They continued the impressive 5 year streak of the girls’ team placing 4th (2013), 7th (2014), 3rd (2015), 2nd (2016) and 4th (2017) at the state meet.
The boys' team placed 3rd and earned bronze medals and a nice big trophy! They were led by state runner-up Christian Rivera and Spencer Keith who placed 15th, both earning Cross Country Coaches Association All-State honors. Christian's 2nd place finish is the highest individual state cross country meet finish in school history. This was the 9th year in a row that the boys' team has competed at the state meet, previously being on the podium in 2011-1st, 2013-3rd and 2017-3rd.
There were only 6 schools that had both a boys' and girls' team at the state meet. In the battle for the top overall program, Kaufman had the best combined finishes out of those 6 teams. There is no trophy or medals for this accomplishment, but it is the 2nd year in a row for us to be on top. It was also our 5th year in a row to have both teams compete at the state meet and no other school in class 4A over that span has done that.
Please help us congratulate these kids for their commitment and hard work over the course of a long season. They represented Kaufman extremely well at the state championship meet.
