Principal's Message

Welcome to O.P. Norman Jr. High.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you, as part of our educational family, to another wonderful school year. Whether this is your first time, or you are a returning family, we are proud to have you at O.P. Norman Jr. High. I am Mr. Melton. I started my teaching career on this campus and have been here since. This year, I begin my 10th year with the wonderful kids of Kaufman.

A new school year is always an exciting time. It presents opportunities for various beginnings – new classes, new faces, and more important choices. The next two years are a time for growth, challenge and adventure. Your child’s time at Norman will be exciting and filled with many new opportunities.

Additionally, junior high is a time of change. The workloads and social adjustments are greater here than at the elementary level. The campus is larger, there are more students, and instead of one teacher in one classroom, your child will have a separate instructor and classroom for each subject.

Parents, please take time to review your child’s grades on the Parent Portal and talk with your children about their school experiences. Your interest and concern in their school progress will motivate them to do their best. Also, maintain contact with your child’s teachers and staff members to establish a successful home/school connection.

Our goal is to challenge your child academically, grow them socially and emotionally, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving. Students will be encouraged to display good character and to make good choices that will result in successful outcomes. We are looking forward to a great school year filled with enriching activities and learning experiences that will help your child display “Lion Pride!”

Please know that I have an open door policy and you are invited to Norman anytime. We believe that the junior high years are two of the most important and formative years in your child’s life. It takes all of us to mold and guide them to realize their highest potential.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Melton
